Ball contacts (3)
Interviews: Language and discrimination in the life of multilingual pupils.
This unit offers participants the opportunity to learn about language-related discrimination from the perspective of multilingual pupils in school and every-day life. Participants see a video sequence from the film “Ball Contacts” that shows three young people in metalinguistic interviews, where the young speakers talk about their language use in different situations and their experiences with multilingualism, and with linguistic discrimination in their everyday lives and in the classroom. Since in the more formal set-up of these interviews, unlike in the football conversations used in Ball Contacts (1) and (2), all speakers use standard-close German, participants also get an impression of the broader repertoire of these young people.
